Research Methodology : Research Proposal ( First Draft )

Chapter 1
Introduction
For the students that learn reading, writing and memorizing the holy quran, it is impossible for them to learn art. For religious teacher and people in Muslim world, art is forbidden as drawing a figure is considered as a big sin.
According to the history of Islam, the art in Islamic world is great. Even though the art is consisted on utensils and appliance, but the art bonding with Islam world is strong. It could be seen at the aesthetical of the swords,cloth,shoes and handwriting belong to prophet (saw), the designing and the colour inside holy quran is the big prove how Islam embrace the art.
Even though, there are rumors that stated art is combining the sin matter such as consist of nude figure, it is from the western art. In this east country, this matter could be exaggerated to fill in just the positive art fundamental for the religious based primary school students.
Publicly known as art is fun, by learning art it is stressed that art could enhance the creativity if the students itself. Art is if use in appropriate way, it could strengthen and help the students to manage these study in memorizing the holy quran to the maximum effects.
Art could spread the help in improvise the religious based primary school students.
In reading, writing and memorizing the holy book. They could also create the Islamic Calligraphy using what they read to strengthen their memory.

Background of Study
The most forbidden things to do in art is drawing figure. It is concluded as a big sin. But for the purpose of study and education it is allowed but still under control In Islam, Art is considered a conservative issue. Therefore, all about art not exposed to these students. This is quite sad because when we look at history, Islamic art is very famous in Muslim world. If it does not fit; we will modify to match to the existing art so that it is still considered polite to learn the art by religious based primary school students.
In the Holy Quran, it is stated that God loves beauty. So there is no wrong in learning the art fundamental for these religious based primary school students. It is not fair for the other standard primary students could learn art and these students are not. The problem is to negotiate and arrange the art fundamental to be harmonized and well accepted by the religious teacher to accept it. There are some advantages for the religious based primary school students to learn art fundamental. As their collated with the daily routine reading, writing and memorizing the holy Quran, they should be able to implement the art fundamental to help them in the routine. As we realize that the student especially young children interested in playing colours and design. So by injecting art fundamental, it is believed could boost their interest and creativity enhancement up.

Statement of Research Problem
According to the art history in Islam, the Islamic calligraphy is the most magnificent art that contribute to the Islamic world. It is a major problem, when the religious based primary school students are not allowed to study art. Art could be control. The management or the government should improvise the art subject and introduce the art fundamental that are suitable for the religious based primary school students as we knew that there are some forbidden that they could not apply in art. For example, Islamic calligraphy could be taught in the school as it related with the Holy book that they read, write and memorize.
Apart from that, art is important not only when the student apply it in class but it will help them through their life, for example, when they are choosing the colours and design for interiors, furniture and material for their house. This is where the art fundamentals will help them in those matters. It is important to introduce the art fundamental towards the religious based primary school students so that they could multiple their enhancements and skills in study and life

Research Objectives
The research objectives of this study are:
  1. To identify art fundamental to religious based primary school students
  2. To identify problems in learning art fundamental towards religious based primary school students
  3. To investigate the art fundamental approaches to religious based primary school students
 Research Questions
The research questions for this study are:
  1. What is the art fundamental?
  2. What are the problems faced by religious based primary school students in learning art fundamental?
  3. What kind of art fundamental approaches towards the religious based primary school students?
 Definition of the terms
In the study, there are few words or terms that need clarification so as not to cause misunderstanding the meaning of the word.

Art fundamentals

According to Otto Ochvirk & Robert Stinson (2009), Art fundamental is an understanding of the basic concepts or fundamentals of art making in order to become a good artist. It’s all start with the element of art such as line, shape, form and others. The elements of art are the basic components of art making. It is impossible to create a work of art without using at least one of the seven elements of art. Artwork can also be analyzed according to the used of the elements in a work of art. When an artwork is analyzed in this manner, it is considered a formalist approach to art critism. Besides that, the principle of art is the way the element of art composed in the work of art. The principles such composition tends to be more fluids than the element meaning that opinions vary on what the principles are. The examples of principles of art are balance, proportion,unity,harmony,variety,emphasis,rhythm and movement. These principles related with the elements in an artwork.

Students

According to Kamus Dewan (1989), defined the students,who learn (such as school children,college students,etc). The respondents are students from primary school.

Limitation of the Study
The study examines matters relating to the acquisition of knowledge in art fundamental  is confined to only a sample taken from the primary students in Sekolah Tahfiz Islah, Tasek Gelugor, Pulau Pinang (STAIL) . Nevertheless, this study is not an action research, eventhough it focused on introducing art fundamental in the school.

Significance of the Study
It is hope that the findings of this study will enhance the interest in learning art of the students and consider as another multitasking skills in completing their other subject’s comprehension by using art fundamental.  Hence, the religious education is tough, by injecting art fundamental, it is to simplify the understanding of other subjects.

Conclusion

This chapter has covered the background of study, the statement of the research problem, the research objectives, the research questions, the significance of the research, the operational definition on terms used in this study and the limitation of this study. The literature review of the topics related to this study will be presented in the next chapter.
