Traditional Malay Craft
Batik
A method (originally used in Malay culture) of producing coloured designs on textiles by dyeing them,having first applied wax to the parts to be left undyed. it involved the handmade-type of artworks. It is from the inherent of Malay community. In schools, students are being introduced over traditional craft for example batik.
This field creates awareness of the existence of some kind of traditional craft that represent culture of the country. Traditional craft activities introduce the function, making process and techniques, tools and materials, motifs, patterns and embellishments. Appreciation aspect for the work place as a learning process includes identification, manufacturing process and recognize figures for each specified field craft. This activity can be done in various ways such as statements, poems, plays, songs and stories.

Step
1.
Select the cloth (silk,muslin,cotton and work
best) and wash the cloth to remove any
Residue
2.
Decide on your design and trace it onto the
favric with a pencil
3.
Place wax paper underneath the fabric so the
fabric will not stick to the surface you are working on
4.
After all parts are waxed that you do not want
dyed you should allow the wax to dry on the fabric, you can speed up this process
in the freezer
5.
After the wax has dried, you can create the
crackle effect on the fabric by balling up the fabric to create cracks in the
wax
6.
Make your dye bath ia a pot or bowl according to
the directions of your dye
7.
Allow the fabric to dry
8.
Begin ironing off the wax in small sections,
using the newsprint underneath the fabric and also above between the fabric and
icon
9.
Wax the sections that you previously dyed if you
do not wish for them to be dyed another color
10.
Repeat this process until your batik is finished

Windows Live
Movie Maker to create a video about the process of batik making. It will
contain the people such as batik maker and the workshop to do it. The reason
for using this software is to enhance and create a simple movie about our Malay
traditional valuable craft. Is is also to give awareness to visual art students
and teachers about the speciality of our culture.
